I promise I am back now! Life has been crazy! My 5 year old sidekick and I have been so busy! With the start of kindergarten and me going back for my second year of college it was hard to find time for crafting! Blah blah blah… enough excuses! Come back tonight for my first tutorial… with photos!

So I have an etsy store ShesCrafyPDX.etsy.com and you can find my wraps at Speedboat Coffee Shop – 5115 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97206, AND I will be selling at the Valentine’s Day Gift Fair @ Urban Grind (2214 NE Oregon ST, Portland OR 97232) 1/31 from Noon to 4:00pm, which is a fundraiser for Two Dollars a Day. Wow! So exciting!!!
Find of the day:
Yarnia!!!!!!
This is a magical land of options! You get to wind your own yarn!! It is an adorable little store and when you go in the walls are lined with shelves full of individual strands of yarn. You pick out the material, color, thickness and then they wind it for you. Prepare yourself to be overwhelmed by all of the options! They also have custom blends already made AND a bargain basket which is my favorite. I picked out a lovely cotton yarn that is the lightest weight I have ever worked with!
I got 700 yards for 40% off of $14.50 which equals an awesome deal and my new favorite yarn store!
I Love Crochet!!!

One of the first paths I took on my crafty journey was crochet. I wanted to get into felting and I wanted to make scarves and then felt them. I loved crochet, although my dablings in felting have not gone so well the crochet has been awesome. I found out later that knitting is a bit more condusive to felting although felting crochet works too….but I digress…. back to my point I love crochet!!! Some great FREE resources for crochet are:

Tons of free patterns, advice and inspiration. Create a free account and sign up for their newsletter! I found a link to this project on there that I love!
Once I got the hang of the stitch I could whip one out in just under an hour. A couple of adjustments I made to the pattern was only 1 single crochet before the button holes and only skipping 2 stitches when forming the button holes, but the pattern workd fine the way it is too. You can find it at:

btw…I LOVE crochet!

Hello World!
I am a crafty Mama here in Portland Oregon. I love to crochet and knit, although I am new to both. I taught myself just over a month ago. I also love all things cute and girly….in spite of the fact that my only child is a boy and I don’t really where a lot of girly myself! My personal wear lean more toward earthy Portland mama…. meaning jeans, layered shirts, campus boots or keens, with scarf in earth tones. Alas I digress….
What really got me going on crafting was a book/movement about homemade giving, relational giving and meaningful worship called the Advent Conspiracy. http://www.adventconspiracy.org/
I am Christian so this held a lot of meaning for me in many ways, but the thing that really stuck out to me was giving to those I love something that I made with my own hands for them. Something that I put lots of thought, time, energy and effort into. I don’t have the shopping budget that allows for extravagant gifts, but even if I did I would rather give it to someone or somewhere that truly needs is. I found out that for about $8 1 child in an impoverished nation can have access to clean water for life. http://www.water.cc/living-water/resources/ When faced with that buying something fancy didn’t feel so great. Don’t get me wrong I love fabulous gifts, but I wanted to find a balance. I wanted to be able to give something really awesome, that showed I care for the recipient and that gave me room to be responsible on a global level. In addition to that I think a lot of people religious or not want to get away from consumerism for the sake of consumerism.
ENTER CRAFTING!
In my humble opinion Portland is the motherland for crafting! Surrounded by inspiring beauty, months of indoor inducing rainy weather and a huge punk – diy – recycle – upcycle – arty – coffee drinking – pub crawling culture HOW could we not be!
Today’s fantastic find:
DIY Alert www.diyalert.com
This is a must have for every Portlander who makes, wants to make, wants to see or buy local art and crafts. Not only is it a huge resource but the gals who run it are awesome and creative. My favorite part is the How To section. One of the projects is for making cards. The have a Christmas card example, but the method could be used for anything. Pretty slick! http://diyalert.com/node/3982
See ya later!
